Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a transformative figure in American history, known for his unwavering commitment to civil rights, justice, and equality. A pivotal leader in the American civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. King advocated for nonviolent protest as means to dismantle racial segregation and discrimination. His iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered during the march on Washington for jobs and freedom in 1963, remains a powerful symbol of his vision for a nation free from racial injustice. We celebrate Dr. King on MLK Day to honor his tireless efforts in advancing civil rights, promoting equality, and inspiring positive change, making MLK Day a day of reflection, service, and commitment to a more inclusive future.

2023 - Year in Review

By: Antonio Johnson

The year 2023 was huge for PaYS - not only for the program, but for all of our partners and stakeholders who continue to support us. Thank you for being a part of this incredible community. Before we jump into 2024, let's look back at 2023's biggest accomplishments and see what we achieved together.

Program Expansion
Early in the year, PaYS introduced the initial phase of an expansion strategy that addressed low utilization rates and removed restrictions for partners. As a result, PaYS is now available to ALL uniformed Soldiers on Active Duty, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. Soldiers can now self-register for PaYS at https://www.armypays.com/PaYSReservations/auth/login and select up to five companies for a guaranteed interview. Since the relaunch in July 2023, over 2,000 Soldiers have registered for PaYS using the new/improved process.

New Partnerships
PaYS developed 105 new partnerships in 2023; making it the third consecutive year for 100+ partners. This is a significant achievement due to the expansion of the program. Some of the notable partnerships include Delta Airlines, Ford Motor Company and Micron Technology.

Antonio Johnson, PaYS Program ManagerSigning Ceremonies
Signing ceremonies publicly recognize the partnership and create media attention to inform communities of the partner's support for Veterans. This happened 46 times in 2023 as companies proudly announced their partnership with the U.S. Army. A PaYS signing ceremony was conducted at Chicago's Soldier Field (United Airlines) and at the Pentagon (Ford Motor Company). The U.S. Secretary of the Army, Christine Wormuth served as an official for a PaYS ceremony and General Officers officiated 24 ceremonies in 2023.

"As we transition to 2024, stay tuned for more updates from the PaYS Program. With your support, we can continue to impact the Soldier/Veteran community in a lasting way. Finally, I would like to thank the marketing and IT professionals that make up the PaYS Team. It is your discipline and motivation that makes this possible." - Antonio Johnson, PaYS Program Manager

Louisiana State Police hires Army Veteran, Archie Forsyth

By: Victor FlemingLouisiana State Police logoArchie Forsyth

Louisiana State Police, an esteemed PaYS Partner, hired LT. Archie Forsyth, an Army Veteran, following military service. During an interview with PaYS Marketing Analyst, Victor Fleming, LT Forsyth shared his transition journey navigating from the Army to Louisiana State Police. Here's his story:

Why did you join the Army? What was/is your MOS?

I joined the Army for two reasons. First, because I was a fourth-generation Soldier in my family. Second, The World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001.

My MOS while I was enlisted was 31B, Military Police, and 31U, Army Signal Support System Specialist. When I joined the Louisiana Army National Guard, I went through Officer Candidate School (OCS) and branched into Aviation, UH-60 Black Hawk airframe.

Share your experience in connecting with the Louisiana State Police.

My experience with the Louisiana State Police and the US Army is roughly the same. Both organizations' camaraderie and traditions are top-notch and the greatest experience I have had through the years. This is why I wanted to join an elite law enforcement agency with a para-military atmosphere.

If the Louisiana State Police was your first position after service, how was the transition from the Army to the Louisiana State Police?
LT. Archie Forsyth
Louisiana State Police was my first position after military service. The transition was easy as it was like I never left the military.

How did your military experience help with your current position at Louisiana State Police?

In the Army, I held several leadership positions which shaped me for what I currently do with the Louisiana State Police. I am the Region 1 Commander of our Criminal Intelligence Unit in our Bureau of Investigation.

What advice do you have for Soldiers reaching out to potential employers?

Always be humble and honest. Integrity goes a long way, especially having a military background. Teamwork coupled with compassion and the need to help others will make you successful as it did in the military.
